In 1922 Germaine Vion first set foot in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. After many years working in the kitchens of the French President’s office, she gave a new face to her career by buying the Hotel Bellevue, which had been established at the very beginning of the century. Her strong personality, her talent in the kitchen and her Parisian connections soon made the hotel an essential stop-off point on the road to Provence.
Until 1958, from Mistinguett to Jean Gabin, from Fernandel to Gaby Morlay, a host of prestigious guests honoured this place with their presence. The house soon changed its name to the one of the exceptional chef, La Mère Germaine.
The present day,
Isabelle and Arnaud Strasser, the new owners of La Mère Germaine, are passionate about wine and gastronomy. They have carried out a complete renovation of the restaurant and hotel, while preserving the soul of this institution.
